This week we had visitors from a local high school who had just learned about gel electrophoresis and were able to see DNA movement in action. The high school AP biology students heard about life as a scientist, how to get involved in research, and about the cancer research going on in the Bernstein lab. They then had the opportunity to look at cells in a microscope, watch DNA run on a gel, and to streak bakers yeast onto a plate. A great time was had by all.
Kara poses for a picture with Chancellor Gallagher (center) and Dr. Tom Kensler who was also a distinguished scholar awardee.
Cat, Braulio, and Kara are honored at the Honor's Convocation. Cat was honored for being in the top 2% cumulative undergraduate standing at Pitt, Braulio was honored for his Fulbright fellowship for his PhD studies at Pitt, and Kara was honored for the Chancellors Distinguished Research Scholar Award.
